Stray bullet kills Idukki man in his sleep; three-member hunting gang arrested
Idukki: Police, on Friday, arrested a three-member gang in connection with the death of a man who was struck by a stray bullet while he was asleep at night in Kerala’s Idukki district. Sunny Palakkal, 57, died on Tuesday night after being hit by a stray bullet while sleeping. Mavadi-natives Saji and Binu and Muniyara native Vineesh were arrested following an investigation that proved a stray bullet from their country-made gun hit Sunny, who was sleeping inside his house. The gang was engaged in hunting in the area close to Sunny’s house which was surrounded by cardamom plantations. Police found that around five bullets hit the wooden door of the kitchen of Sunny’s house. One of them pierced his head, killing him on the spot. The death of Sunny has sparked concerns in the area about gangs engaged in hunting in a clandestine manner. People would arrive at night to hunt wild boars, rabbits and other wild animals commonly found in the region.
