Bengaluru: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates India’s first 3-D printed post office
Bengaluru: Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday inaugurated India’s first 3-D printed post office at Cambridge Layout in the city. The unique structure was constructed in a record time of just 44 days. Officials said that the construction of the building started on March 21 and was completed by May 3 this year. The use of 3D technology reduced the construction time significantly. After inaugurating the building, the Union Minister said that Bengaluru has always presented a new picture of India. Even though the construction was completed in record time, its inauguration was delayed due to the building of a drainage and water network in the building. The unique building will be named Cambridge Layout Post Office. According to reports, the Halasuru Bazaar post office will be shut down and the staff will be moved to the new building. The attractive building was constructed by L&T on a 1,100 sq ft site. Officials said that 3-D printing technology not only reduces the time of construction but also the cost. The new technology deposits concrete layer-by-layer in accordance with the 3D model drawing input. According to L&T, the new technology enhances the speed of construction and enhances the build quality. Usually, the 3-D structures are printed in a manufacturing facility and are assembled on the site. But in the case of the Cambridge Layout Post Office, the building was printed at the site.
