Low pressure area forming over Bay of Bengal: North Tamil Nadu to get rains for next one week

Chennai: A Low-Pressure Area (LPA) is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around Thursday or Friday which could bring a prolonged spell of rains along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. It is expected to move gradually in a west-northwest direction, according to India Metrological Department (IMD). There is a possibility of moderate rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over a 7-day period starting today . Accordingly, the districts likely to receive moderate rainfall are Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, and Kallakurichi. Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and parts of Puducherry and Karaikal have been receiving widespread rainfall for the past two days. While Chennai has been seeing bright sunny days, the capital city has also been receiving moderate showers during the nights. Chennai-based private weather blogger K Srikanth has predicted rain activity over northern districts of Tamil Nadu in the coming days. “Mid-level wind convergence will continue to provide a chance for moderate late evening thunderstorms over South AP / North Tamil Nadu border areas. Depending on real-time winds few parts of Chennai and its suburbs could see some late-night rains. Meanwhile, hot days to continue,” he said.
