John Eustace makes Birmingham City transfer plea after double injury blow in Bristol City win

Injuries to Ethan Laird and Siriki Dembele took some of the gloss off Birmingham City’s latest win against Bristol City. Koji Miyoshi - who replaced Laird in the first half - and Lukas Jutkiewicz netted either side of half-time for Blues at Ashton Gate. John Eustace's team have now won three games on the spin and remain unbeaten this season. Influential right-back Laird was forced off before half-time and Dembele didn’t re-emerge for the second half. Eustace has revealed that both of them were withdrawn due to injuries. “Unfortunately Laird has a muscle strain,” the head coach said. “Dembele also has a muscle strain. Two really important players for us but it’s important that we keep growing and bringing the right players in.” READ: Birmingham City player ratings after Miyoshi and Jutkiewicz down Bristol City READ: Keinan Davis, Clarke-Harris and Birmingham City’s striker options after Sory Kaba transfer The injury to Laird is slightly more concerning due to the lack of options Blues have in defence. Deputy right-back Marcel Oakley is currently sidelined, while central defender Marc Roberts hasn’t played yet this season due to a calf problem. Ex-Burnley right-back Matt Lowton trained with the club last week, but Blues are now assessing other options. Eustace hopes defensive reinforcements can arrive to bolster his threadbare backline soon. “We’ve got good bodies in certain areas but we’re very light in others,” he added. “It’s important that we keep growing. If we can’t we will get on with it. There’s no excuses here. The players that filled in those positions today were outstanding.”
