Callous thief robs woman at Asda cashpoint

A heartless thief robbed a woman at a cashpoint at a Birmingham supermarket. The crook struck as a victim in her 80s withdrew cash at Asda Queslett in Great Barr at around 1.30pm on Sunday, August 13. The woman had requested £200 from the cashpoint and just as the money was being dispensed, the thief grabbed her hand and pushed her into a wall. He then grabbed the money and fled. The victim was shaken and alerted security guards who took her inside the store for a coffee. The man was caught on CCTV stealing the money and was believed to have been known to staff at the store. The Great Barr resident told BirminghamLive: “My friend went to get some money out of the cashpoint machine at Asda Queslett. “As the money was coming out a man grabbed her hand, pushed her against the wall out of the way and then taken the money. He then left on his toes. “Luckily, they got a camera image of him and from that the supermarket security guards said they ‘know of him’. "My friend saw the picture and said he was white, looked to be in his late 20s and he had two hoodies a grey one and a blue one on.” Read more: Suitcase full of jewellery stolen from car parked in city centre street Jan said her friend was ‘shocked’ by what happened but was looked after by a security guard who then called the police. She said: “I spoke to her Sunday and she was shaken up and shocked. “I saw her on Tuesday and Wednesday and she was talking about what happened. She has been out with me when I have been dog walking. If she needs to take money out again I said I will go with her. It’s just made her feel violated.” A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after a woman was robbed in Great Barr. Shortly before 2pm on Sunday, August 13, she was withdrawing money from a cash machine in Old Horns Crescent when a man approached her, pushed her and stole £200 before making off. “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened can contact us via Live Chat or 101 quoting crime number 20/713138/23.” Anyone with any information, can also contact independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
