Theories were galore online as fans of the program tried to work out if Talitha, Dhillon or both were implicated in the death of Hannah Ellis after they continually threw each other under the bus despite being friends for years. Actors Céline Buckens and Joseph Payne most notably carried the show to success and after less than two years of radio silence, with the last episode of Showtrial being aired on BBC One in November 2021, it's time for a fresh start. The BBC has announced the return of World Productions' legal drama for BBC One and BBC iPlayer . Written and created by Ben Richards, the new Showtrial will star BAFTA award-winner Adeel Akhtar (also seen in Sherwood, Ali & Ava and Utopia ), Nathalie Armin (Home, Unforgotten, The Batman) and Michael Socha (The Gallows Pole, Chernobyl , This Is England). Once again, the show will focus on vastly contested trial, dividing the nation and occurring in the glaring media spotlight. This time, the trial will be centred around high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood who has been left for dead in a violent hit and run. In his dying moments, Marcus identifies his killer - a serving policeman. Nathalie Armin, on the other hand, has been chosen to portray Leila Hassoun-Kenny, a rigorous CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused. Speaking about the upcoming return of Showtrial, Ben Richards said: "I am very grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to explore another sensational trial which I hope will be just as entertaining as our first outing. I love writing Showtrial and I’m honoured to have a cast of such high quality to deliver it." No precise air date has been confirmed but the previous five-part instalment of Showtrial was aired on October 31, 2021, making it probable that the program will return to our screens later this year.
