Liverpool suffer 'tough day' as red card cannot avoid heavy setback
Liverpool under-18s suffered a "tough day" as they tumbled to heavy defeat at Leeds United on Saturday. A third goal in two games for Jayden Danns wasn't enough as the young were beaten 4-1 in the U18 Premier League North at Thorp Arch training ground. “A tough day,” Liverpool U18 boss Marc Bridge-Wilkinson “I thought they (Leeds) deserved to win, they were better than us on the day. "Too many of our players had days where they couldn’t get on top of the opponents. It was a tough day at the office.” Danns, who netted twice in the 4-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, tucked away a penalty with five minutes remaining but it was mere consolation against a Leeds side who had taken control of the game before half-time with goals from Lleyton Brown and Harvey Vincent. With Liverpool having lost centre-back Wellity Lucky to injury, Leeds substitute Joshua McDonald then netted a brace after the interval either side of the home team being reduced to 10 men when Max McFadden was given two yellow cards and a subsequent red inside 60 seconds with 15 minutes remaining. Liverpool are next in U18 Premier League North action when they entertain Derby County at Kirkby on Saturday (kick-off 12.30pm).
