Malik Tillman has swapped the light blue of the Ibrox side for the red and white of the Dutch giants and last season’s Rangers loanee is now on a collision course with his old team-mates after they came through their respective qualifiers to set up a play-off round showdown. Both managers have changed - former Dutch team-mates Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ruud van Nistelrooy went head to head 12 months ago - with Michael Beale and Peter Bosz in the dug-outs. And Rangers have had a summer of change with Tillman one of the players who left and he has joined PSV Eindhoven from Bayern Munich. PSV hammered Sturm Graz 7-2 in aggregate with Tavernier’s goal in Geneva earning Rangers a 1-1 draw to take them through. It’s a different team, we’re a different team but I’m sure we’ll see a familiar face in Malik when he comes over but we’ll fully concentrate on ourselves and it’s a massive game at Ibrox in the first leg and we have to put a real marker down and put is in good stead for the return. “The most important thing is we’re through to the next round. We were disappointed not to get the clean sheet but happy to get to the next round. We came in at half time quite disappointed. We built up really well and got through to their final third but weren’t clinical or patient enough. “We were much better second half and the boys who came on contributed. We had to get closer to them. We felt they were building up too quick and getting through us too easy. We obviously changed a few things at half time. We got around each other and came out the second half much better so I’m really pleased with that but you don’t want to waste 45 minutes so we’ll learn from that and we have a big tie at home next Tuesday. James Tavernier scores to make it 1-1 “I felt we built up well going to their final third but maybe just crossed it too soon or not clinical with the final pass but it was more defensively we let them through a bit too easy. We’ll learn from it and can’t afford to lose that in a vital game. “It’s a new team with a lot of new players. If one person is out of position just a little bit it can affect it. It’s about gelling together and continuing to work hard on the training pitch. We showed up very well in the second half so it’s definitely there but it’s about being fully concentrated and not wasting any minutes.” Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks.
