Alex Greenwood's life with famous partner and which team she supports

England Lioness Alex Greenwood has gone from playing football outside her nan's house in Bootle to helping her team make it to the World Cup Final. Greenwood and her Lioness teammates arrived in Australia and New Zealand this month to compete in the Women’s World Cup; their first major tournament since winning the Euros last summer. And on Sunday, August 20, the 29-year-old and the rest of the team will take on Spain in the last game of the competition. Cheering her on in the stands will be her famous partner - fellow footballer Jack O'Connell. O'Connell retired from football earlier this year, after seven years at Sheffield United. Before that, he had spells at Brentford and Blackburn Rovers, as well as Rotherham United and Rochdale on loan. Greenwood and O'Connell are childhood sweethearts, having met when they were both at Savio Salesian College in Bootle. Greenwood may play for Manchester City, but she grew up a Liverpool FC fan. Despite this, she joined Everton’s youth set-up aged six and would go on to make her first-team debut for the Toffees aged just 16 in August 2010. As , Greenwood left Everton in 2014 to join Notts County, but stayed just a single season in the midlands before heading to the other side of the city and signing for childhood club Liverpool. Manchester United would be the next stop for Greenwood's career, where she led the newly formed side, containing current Lionesses stars such as Ella Toone, Lauren James, and Katie Zelem, to the Women's Championship title. That led to a move to European juggernaut Lyon, where she won the UEFA Women's Champions League, appearing alongside fellow England stars Lucy Bronze and Jodie Taylor in the final as the French side sealed the quadruple. But Greenwood would last just a season with Lyon's galacticos and returned back to English football with Manchester City, completing the red and blue halves of both Liverpool and Manchester before winning the Women's FA Cup with her new side in 2020.
