'Magic' dog survives being blasted in head with shotgun and finds forever home

An incredible dog that was blasted in the head with a shotgun has thankfully survived and has now found a forever home. Magic, a 10-month-old German Shepherd puppy, was rescued by Louisville Metro Animal Services in Kentucky back in January, after he was found with a gunshot wound to his head. But thankfully, veterinarians with the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) managed to save the pup's life and the rescuers have now announced that an adoptive family has been found for him. The bullet entered above his eye, went through his nasal cavity, and passed through his tongue – before breaking his lower jaw. KHS explained: "The way the bullet was angled, we can only assume that Magic was looking up at his abuser when he was shot." They added that the doctors managed to perform "emergency surgery to close his wounds, remove fragments of bone and teeth, and repair his tongue." For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US Magic underwent multiple surgeries and could only eat baby food because of the gunshot wound ( Image: Flickr/kyhumane) For weeks the pup could only eat baby food and then slowly transitioned to soft puppy food, since his shattered jaw made eating so painful, rescuers said. Veterinarians monitored his progress, "cheering him on with every small step he made," they added. Once Magic was stable and eating on his own, he entered a loving foster home with a KHS staff member. There, he was able to begin healing from not only his physical injuries but also his emotional ones. He then underwent another dental surgery to remove the remaining bone fragments in his jaw. "Most impressively, Magic showed us that his loving, attentive personality has no bounds, despite all that he's suffered at the hands of humans," the rescuers at KHS said. Rescuers said he is an inspiration due to his strength and will to survive ( Image: Youtube/WLKY) Enthusiastic followers of the KHS on Facebook commented below a picture of the dog holding a red heart-shaped cushion. Patty Kirkland Johnson wrote: "I couldn’t be happier for Magic!! A magical ending to his horrific past. Thank you KHS for saving Magic and caring for him so he can go forward with a life of love and happiness!" Another social media user, Sheila Burns Ogden, replied: "The first part of his story makes me sick to my stomach and very angry. Thank you KHS for making it possible for his next part to be absolutely wonderful!" And Elizabeth Hendricks thanked the rescuers saying: "What a beautiful precious boy! Thank you for helping him onto his new home and a beautiful life!" Finally, Joan Connelly commented: "I love this precious boy by the appropriate name of Magic. O how I pray he has found his furever home."
