At least two men rushed to help an injured and disoriented man after hearing screams and windows exploding in a home on Forbes Street in Hawthorne, Brisbane , at 8.20pm on Saturday. They found him in the front yard, before another resident was pulled out of a burning house with serious burns. Another resident was seen trying to bash in the front window on the second floor of a house as fire burns inside. Three men were taken to hospital, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia. One man, in his 40s, was treated at the scene for 'serious burns to his back, head, chest, arms and legs'. Residents in a neighbouring home told the Courier Mail that their husbands 'grabbed the guy' after hearing cries for help. 'We could just hear windows exploding and two guys screaming for help,' a woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said. 'I watched them pull the old guy out of the house.' Residents from all three properties were evacuated. The blaze was so fierce that some locals worried Brisbane's Powerhouse arts centre 700 metres across the Brisbane River was burning. Lauren Crampton, who was driving home after watching the soccer, described the scene as 'awful'. 'All I could see was several people who were smashing windows to make sure no one was inside.' Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said its crews brought house fires under control by 9.20pm. But even then it was generating 'a large amount of smoke in the area and surrounding suburbs'. It warned all nearby residents to close their windows and doors and anyone with respiratory illnesses to 'keep their medications close by'.
