Mail Sport revealed on Tuesday that Stokes had agreed to come out of retirement to help England defend their 50-over World Cup crown, having been approached by white-ball coach Matthew Mott . Stokes marshalled England to an Ashes series draw against Australia earlier this month, and many tipped the captain to undergo surgery on his troublesome left knee ahead of his side's next Test challenge against India in January. But the 32-year-old all-rounder, who has now become more of a specialist batsman for England in red-ball cricket, has decided instead to team up with Jos Buttler's ODI squad ahead of the World Cup. Meanwhile, Stokes has not been named in England's T20 squad to face New Zealand. Josh Tongue and John Turner, who are also uncapped in the 20-over format, will star in the T20s against the Black Caps. Bowling duo Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have been selected in the 50-over squads following their impressing Ashes series, and Moeen Ali has been named in both teams despite confirming his red-ball retirement earlier this month. England Men's National Selector, Luke Wright, said: 'We have been able to name two extremely strong squads that underline the depth of talent we enjoy in white-ball cricket. 'I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again. 'We're also excited to give first international call-ups to both Gus Atkinson and John Turner while Josh Tongue has deserved a place in the T20 squad after impressing during the Ashes. 'Any series against New Zealand is closely fought and will provide us with an ideal opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world.' Moeen Ali, who came out of Test retirement to face Australia this summer, revealed he initially replied 'Lol' to Stokes when the captain asked him to play in the Ashes. Calling back to that moment, Stokes tweeted the same remark on Wednesday morning as England confirmed his place in the ODI squad against New Zealand.
