Chelsea poke fun at Liverpool after beating them to £115m signing of Moises Caicedo by posting a throwback photo of the midfielder in a Blues shirt, claiming the Reds were never in the race! Chelsea had a laugh at Liverpool's expense after signing £115m Moises Caicedo The club posted tweets which suggested the Reds had never been in the race WATCH: 'It's All Kicking Off' - Episode 1 - Mail Sport's brand new football show By Luke Power For Mailonline Published: 04:25 EDT, 15 August 2023 | Updated: 04:31 EDT, 15 August 2023 e-mail 6 View comments Chelsea have poked fun at Liverpool with a series of hilarious tweets after sealing a £115million deal for Moises Caicedo, who the Reds were desperate to sign. Chelsea confirmed the signing of the Brighton and Ecuador midfielder for a British record transfer fee and fended off competition from their Liverpudlian foes. Liverpool had seemingly hijacked the Blues' move for him with a surprise £111m bid proving their seriousness, but the 21-year-old rejected their advances. According to Chelsea and Caicedo in a playful social media jibe, there was never any doubt about where the midfield gem was headed. 'It's only ever been Chelsea', read one of their tweets, as the club posted a video of Caicedo in a Chelsea top with his mother, before comparing it to a similar photo from 2020, taken in Cayembe, Ecuador. Chelsea tweeted that 'It's only ever been Chelsea' in a swipe at Liverpool after Moises Caicedo snubbed the Reds to join them Chelsea compared their video of Caicedo to a photo from 2020 of him and his mother In the old photo, he and his mother are sat on the edge of a car boot, and the Blues recreated that photo as if to suggest it was always his destiny to join them. In another video tweet, Caicedo crouches down and says 'I was always a Blue' before putting his thumbs up. The caption for that tweet is: 'It was never in doubt.' To rub salt into the wounds, the Londoners are closing in on the signature of Romeo Lavia after Liverpool have spent weeks trying to sign him. The Belgian midfielder agreed terms with Chelsea on Monday in a move worth £50m plus add-ons after Liverpool saw three bids rejected this summer, reluctant to meet Southampton's asking price for a player with just a year of Premier League experience. Despite Chelsea's social media bravado, on Mail Sport's explosive new football podcast 'It's All Kicking Off', hosted by Ian Ladyman, Chris Sutton questioned the price tag attached to Caicedo . He said: 'That's a lot of money for a player in that position. I suppose time will tell in terms of if in the next few seasons Chelsea win the Champions League in the Premier League, then you say he is worth the money, but I'm not so sure he is. 'It is £115m essentially for a development player. Caicedo will worry less about what's written on the back pages of the newspapers, I would imagine, but for him it'll be social media and things like that, that if he looks, that's where he will find the questions, isn't it? That's where he will find the criticism.' The club claimed that 'it was never in doubt' with Caicedo adding 'I was always a Blue' Southampton's Romeo Lavia has also agreed terms with the London club in a blow to Liverpool, who have been chasing the teenager all summer IT'S ALL KICKING OFF!
