James Cohen Host commentator 14:36 33mins: Diaby strikes the post It feels like a third goal is coming. Diaby comes so close to getting with a beautiful side-footed volley but Pickford does well to tip his effort onto the post and wide. 14:35 Luiz makes no mistake from the spot after Pickford's foul 14:29 26mins: Villa in full flow Unai Emery's side are looking slick here and they should have three goals to show for it. Moussa Diaby has the ball rolled into him, with time to take, inside the box but can only muster a weak shot at the Everton goal. 14:26 23mins: Yellow card for Jordan Pickford The Everton goalkeeper gets a caution for delaying the spot-kick. 14:25 GOAL! Aston Villa 2-0 Everton (Luiz, 23') And the hosts double their advantage! Douglas Luiz makes no mistake from the spot as he tucks his effort beyond Jordan Pickford and into the back of the net. It's a long way back for the Toffees now. 14:24 22mins: PENALTY TO ASTON VILLA Wow - that is wild from Jordan Pickford. The Everton keeper comes flying out of his goal and clatters into Ollie Watkins, getting none of the ball and all of the man. The referee allowed play to continue, as Villa were still on the attack, but once that broke down quickly pointed to the spot. 14:19 GOAL! Aston Villa 1-0 Everton (McGinn, 17') The hosts have the lead and it's through their captain, John McGinn! Yet to see if changes will be made. 14:10 8mins: Diaby fires over from range First sight at goal for Moussa Diaby but the summer signing fails to keep his effort down and watches it sail over the crossbar. Should've done better. 14:07 4mins: Lively start to the game No real chances yet but both teams certainly look up for the occasion. Fast breaks, big tackles and a rowdy atmosphere - it's all set up for a cracking game. 14:03 KICK-OFF: Aston Villa 0-0 Everton We're underway at Villa Park! 13:54 Kick-off is just around the corner... Not long until the Premier League action for the day begins... 13:47 Everton boss Sean Dyche urges the Toffees to find goals from all areas of the pitch to ease the pressure on his strikers Everton manager Sean Dyche has urged his players to find goals from all areas of the pitch to ease the pressure on his goal-shy strikers. The Merseyside club's tally of 34 goals from 38 Premier League matches last season was the second lowest in the top flight and a massive factor in their struggle to avoid relegation, which they did thanks to a last-day win over Bournemouth. Dominic Calvert-Lewin's expected return from injury to face Aston Villa on Sunday therefore cannot come soon enough, although the 26-year-old collected more yellow cards (three) than goals (two) in 18 games last season. Mail Online 13:35 Can Villa fire back after nervy opening start? It certainly was not the start that Aston Villa fans were hoping for - or expecting - when their side stepped onto the pitch for the Premier League season opener last week. Unai Emery's side were swept aside in their visit to Newcastle and walked away with a 5-1 defeat to show for it. After their strong summer of recruitment - with the likes of Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and Youri Tielemans joining the club - many will hope for a different outcome this afternoon. 13:23 Sean Dyche eyes long stay at Everton as he lauds the Toffees' 'demanding' fans Sean Dyche wants to be at Everton for the long haul after starting to bond with the club’s ‘demanding’ fans. Dyche sees it as part of his job to engage with supporters and recently enjoyed a night out in Lark Lane, regarded as one of the city’s best areas for pubs and restaurants. Despite Everton missing a hatful of chances in their opening 1-0 home defeat against Fulham, Dyche takes his side to Aston Villa on Sunday confident they will have more firepower than last season when they survived on the final day by beating Bournemouth.
